The empowerment of early childhood educators as teacher leaders can translate into effective instructional practices that promote children’s development. This paper aims to broaden the discussion about the relationship between early childhood educators and their traditional K-12 counterparts. We seek to present a wider exploration of what it takes to develop and maintain systemic changes in thinking-- the philosophies, the perceptions, the policies and the commitments that are necessary in creating sustained educational change.

The authors present a comprehensive and accessible list of websites useful to both education leadership faculty and graduate students who are either practicing school leaders or aspiring to the principalship. The websites are based on the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) in collaboration with the National Policy Board on Educational Administration (NPBEA) to help strengthen preparation programs in school leadership. The Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards have been developed to promote excellence in the professional preparation of future school administrators to achieve the mission of increased student achievement and to help strengthen preparation programs in school leadership (Council of Chief State School Officers, 2008). In addition, the standards promote the training of visionary leaders who are able to implement a school improvement plan that is shared and supported by all school stakeholders With the increasing pressure of program accountability, the ISLLC standards provide leadership preparation programs a solid framework for developing, sustaining, and assessing coursework. The following websites have been selected to provide resources for graduate students and practitioners who are developing mastery of the specific ISLLC 2008 standards (Council of Chief State School Officers, 2008). Earlier versions of supporting websites were based on the previous, longer version of ISLLC standards (Follo & Lonze, 2004). In a more recent revision by Follo and Klocko (2009), many of the websites published are no longer available due to the nature of Internet publication. In order to better serve those engaged in professional preparation programs, we have carefully edited this listing of supporting websites and aligned them with corresponding ISLLC standards. All websites included in this comprehensive list were accessed in September, 2010. In addition, the websites are briefly annotated to facilitate making quick, easy selections and connections to the resources.

This paper documents a study of the role of superintendents in fostering and enabling the growth of teacher leadership. It is presented in two parts. The first part was designed to study teacher leadership programs in select universities in Michigan in which professors of educational administration described the extent to which the concept of teacher leadership is included in administrative training programs at their universities. The second part of the study reviewed the perceptions of a select group of educators who had either been trained as teacher leaders (Galileo Academy) or were administrators in buildings with trained teacher leaders (Galileo Consortium) as to the role of superintendents in fostering this concept. The study used qualitative and quantitative measures, in survey form. This paper presents the preliminary data, which suggest that universities are beginning to include teacher leadership as a unit of study, and superintendents are seen as key figures in the transformation to utilizing teacher leadership.
