This system takes a sound signal as an input and determine whether the instrument being played is a woodwind, a string instrument or a horn. We first sample an input .wav file at a fast rate. Then, by using Fourier transforms on each sample we are able to determine the harmonics for each instrument, and how powerful each one of these are. By making several comparisons based on the characteristics of each instrument, we were able to determine what type of instrument was being input into our system.
