          </m:apply>
	</m:math>

	indicates that only the first <m:math><m:cn>3</m:cn></m:math>
	scores are to be summed. The index variable
	<m:math><m:ci>i</m:ci></m:math> goes from
	<m:math><m:cn>1</m:cn></m:math> to
	<m:math><m:cn>3</m:cn></m:math>. When all the scores of a
	variable (such as <m:math><m:ci>X</m:ci></m:math>) are to be
	summed, it is often convenient to use the following
	abbreviated notation:

	<m:math display="block">
	  <m:mrow>
	    <m:mo>∑</m:mo>
	    <m:mi>X</m:mi>
	  </m:mrow>
	</m:math>

	Thus when no values of <m:math><m:ci>i</m:ci></m:math> are
	shown, it means to sum all the values of
	<m:math><m:ci>X</m:ci></m:math>.
      </para>
