Emotions can be reflected through speech, gestures, and most importantly in facial expression. In a world of ever-increasing technology, many human tasks are becoming outdated and being replaced with efficient automated systems, such as computers. However, these new computer systems are not able to recognize a person's emotion nor can they display realistic emotions themselves. For our project we developed a computer algorithm rooted in digital signal processing that would allow a computer to discern a user's emotion through the examination of facial expressions found in an image.
