      Definition of a lens

      Lenses

A lens is a custom view of Connexions content. You can think of it as a fancy kind of list that will let you see Connexions through the eyes of organizations and people you trust.

      What is in a lens?

Lens makers point to Connexions materials (modules and collections), creating a guide that includes their own comments and descriptive tags about the content.

      Who can create a lens?

Any individual Connexions member, a community, or a respected organization.

Criminal Justice System

Module by: Don Holloway

Summary: ..."study after study...have shown the Drug Courts, in spite of their hug-a-thug reputaion, have been more effective at keeping addicts off drugs and away from committing crimes than anything else the criminal justice system has ever thrown at them. "The U.S Department of Justice calculates that 'close to 100,000 drug dependent offenders have entered drug court programs...and over seventy percent are either still enrolled or have graduated - more than double the rate of traditional treatment program retention rates. (Shavelson, Lonny, Hooked, 2001, p.251) How can traditional treatment programs work with the criminal justice system to acheive these break through rates of retention?

This module is under development. Please contribute your experience in working with the criminal justice system. What works? What doesn't? Send an email to the author, or join the discussion below.
