Name: An Alternative Language Experience Guide for Teachers
ID: m14081
Language: English (en)
Summary: This is an initial guide for Trinidad and Tobago teachers on using the communication experiences of creole-influenced students to improve their Literacy. The ideas suggested here can serve as an alternative to the Language Experience Approach to the teaching of Reading for such students. Teachers can experiment with and develop this guide further or make their own. (Be sure to open the attached Example link/file in the nav. panel with Microsoft Powerpoint.) The "steps" in the guide are meant to allow for flexibility in teaching and learning Literacy. The rich oral traditions of the community (not mentioned in the guide) can also be incorporated into classroom work. "Native strategies for talk" are also included. These are "mental means" that accompany the type of talk and should assist Comprehension.
