Summary: This module includes an example for linear system analysis developed in LabVIEW. The example is interactive and shows the effect of changing transfer function coefficients on system stability.
The attached file is a VI created using the LabVIEW Control Design Toolkit for stability analysis of a second order linear system. The system is represented by a transfer function and the user can change the coefficients interactively on the front panel of the VI (Figure 1) to examine changes in the pole values, pole-zero map, stability indicator, and step response. The block diagram of the VI is shown in Figure 2. This VI can be used as an in-class demonstration or homework problem to teach students about stability concepts and can be easily modified to describe higher order transfer functions or MIMO systems described with a state space representation.
