<list id="a">

I have been growing vegetables organically since the summer of 2004.

I live in London, England

I try to grow a lot of vegetables with very little work.

In this book I will document my techniques and results for 2008.

You can see my past efforts
.

Success is not guaranteed. But there is no need to fear failure. You can always buy your vegetables at the (super)market!

Its late February now. Daffodils are out. Spring is here.
</list>

<media type="image/png" src="daff1.jpg"/>

My first daffodil this year was out February 8th. We moved into this house last January. They came out last year too. Probably planted by the previous tenant. After they bloomed, I chopped them off and placed them on the soil surface.

<media type="image/jpg" src="beans.jpg"/>

I then grew runner beans in their position. Runner beans are leguminous plants - bacteria living in their roots take nitrogen from the air and fix it in the soil for the hosts to absorb and grow better. Of course they wont use all of it and other plants that follow them can benefit too.

<media type="image/png" src="daff2.jpg"/>

And it has benefited these daffodils this year. They look strong and there are lots of them. I had covered the soil with leaves and other organic matter - made the soil warm - and that may have encouraged them to sprout early! Note I use the word <emphasis>may</emphasis> quite often. I probably ought to use may always. Its impossible to be certain in gardening. We cant predict accurately, and therefore, we cant reproduce results. But we can <emphasis>feel</emphasis> if we are doing the right thing for our plants by noting how they respond to our actions.
