- Go to: http://cpr.molsci.ucla.edu/cpr/cpr/login.asp
- Click on the link that says New users: first time logging in?
- You will see a screen that looks like Figure 1:
- Select Rice University as your institution and then enter your Rice student ID.
- You will be directed to a new page where you will
- reset your password,
- set a challenge question in case you forget your password, and
- enter your email address.
The welcome message should mention your name. If the name that appears in the welcome message is not you, then please contact your instructor (see Figure2).
- Once you complete these questions, click on the “Next” button (see Figure 2). This will take you to a summary screen that will display the information that you entered. If you need to make changes to this information, click the “Back” button. If the information displayed is correct, click the “Finish” button.
- You will be taken to another screen that states that your CPR account has been created. Click on the button that says “Access CPR” to login and enter the program.
The software will not allow you to enter your course until you have completed the tour and pretest.
Once you have completed the pretest, you will be taken to a screen that displays the assignments that are available to you (see Figure 3).
- Click on the appropriate link to access the course.
- The next screen will show you the assignment information and progress.
- Click on the "Access Assignment button” (see Figure 4).
Once you have completed the steps above, you are ready to start working on the CPR assignment.
The first page of the module contains the Source Material. Read through these materials to ensure that you are familiar with the goals and objectives of the assignment.
- Create your poster in Microsoft PowerPoint and email it to your instructor.
Include your name on the first panel of your poster. Your name will be removed before the presentation is posted to CPR.
- Your instructor will send you an email message with the Subject line that reads: Your link to upload for the CPR assignment. The email will contain some text and a web address. Once you have received this email, log back into CPR, scroll down to the bottom of the Source Material page and click on the button that says “Continue to Text Entry Stage” (see Figure 5).
- Copy the contents of the email that your instructor sent you and paste it into the text entry box. This will be the link to your poster that your peers will review later in this module (see Figure 6).
Copy the ENTIRE message (both the words and the web address) from the email and paste it in the text entry box.
- Click on the “Submit Text” button to submit your text to the CPR module (see Figure 6).
The “Save Text” button only saves your work; this button will not submit your assignment.
- “Status,” located in the bottom right corner of the screen, indicates whether your text has been submitted (see Figure 6).
- Be sure to submit your text before the deadline for the text entry stage.
- You will not be able to progress to the Calibrations stage of the module until after the text entry stage deadline has passed.
- In the Calibrations stage of the module, you will review three sample posters on Effects of Epidermal Growth Factor on Fibroblast Migration and answer 16 questions about each. Click on the web link to see each poster.
- Once you have answered all the questions, click the “Submit Answers” button. The “Save Answers” button will not submit your work. “Status” indicates whether your answers have been submitted (see Figure 7).
- If your assessment of a poster differs substantially from the instructor’s, you are prompted to go back and answer the questions about that poster a second time.
- Once you have successfully completed the Calibration stage, you will be able to review your scores and compare your answers the instructor’s by clicking on the button that says “Review More Calibration Results.”
- Under “Calibration Scores” you can check to see whether you successfully completed the assignment. The far right column labeled “Overall Grade” indicates whether you mastered the exercise (see Figure 8).
- Under “Calibration Results” you can compare your answers to the instructor’s. By clicking on the underlined ratings/answers in the Instructor column, you can view the instructor’s rationale for his/her response. When your answer differs from the instructor’s, it appears in red (see Figure 8).
- When you have reviewed your scores and viewed the instructor’s comments, click “Continue to Review Stage.”
- In the Reviews stage of the module, you anonymously review three of your peers’ posters. Click on the web link to see each poster.
- Evaluate the posters using the 16 questions and the given rating system. Some of the questions require you to provide an explanation for your answer. You are prompted to type your explanation in a text box below the question (see Figure 8).
- Once you have answered all the questions, use the “Submit Answers” button to submit your answers. The “Save Answers” button will not submit your work. “Status” indicates whether your answers have been submitted.
- Once you have completed all three reviews, you will go the Self-Assessment stage of the module. Click on the button that says “Continue to Self Assessment” to continue.
- You now review the poster you uploaded at the beginning of the module and use the same 16 questions to evaluate your own work. Click on the web link to see the poster.
- Evaluate the poster using the 16 questions and the given rating system (see Figure 10).
- Once you have answered all the questions, use the “Submit Answers” button to submit your answers. The “Save Answers” button will not submit your work. “Status” indicates whether your answers have been submitted.
- Once you have submitted your self-assessment, you will receive a message stating that it has been submitted. The message also will tell you that you can log in after a specified date to view the assignment results (see Figure 11).
- After the specified date, log back into CPR to review your scores and the feedback that your peers provided on your poster.
- Review the comments that your peers provided about your poster and compare their answers to your self-assessment (see Figure 12).
- Use this feedback to revise your poster.
