    <para id="id11822949">Connexions is a web-based document creation and management system </para>
    <para id="id11822954">for education and research materials. There are two parts to </para>
    <para id="id11822960">Connexions: a Content Commons that contains these materials and </para>
    <para id="id11822966">the software tools necessary to create, manage, and access these </para>
    <para id="id11822971">materials. A tour </para>
    <para id="id11822976">of the workings of Connexions and its parts appears on the Connexions </para>
    <para id="id12081746">web page, under the "About" tab.</para>
    <para id="id12081750">From its inception, Connexions was designed to allow the </para>
    <para id="id12081756">collaborative development and free availability of material. </para>
    <para id="id12081761">Instructors and authors can modify this material for any </para>
    <para id="id12081767">educational purpose. Connexions offers Free/Open Source software </para>
    <para id="id12081772">tools to help students, instructors, and authors manage these </para>
    <para id="id12081778">information assets for sharing and advancing knowledge to </para>
    <para id="id12081784">benefit the global educational community. All of this is </para>
    <para id="id12081789">accomplished through the use of the </para>
    <para id="id12081793">Creative </para>
    <para id="id12081798">Commons Attribution license.</para>
    <para id="id12081802">There are three general categories of Connexions users: </para>
    <para id="id12081808"/>
    <para id="id12081812">* Students - who use Connexions to access information on-line, </para>
    <para id="id12081818">to prepare for their classes.</para>
    <para id="id12081822">* Authors - who enter content into Connexions in document </para>
    <para id="id12081828">files called modules.</para>
    <para id="id12081832">* Instructors - who build courses, which are documents created </para>
    <para id="id12081838">by linking related modules together in a specific order.</para>
