Summary: This module provides information on specific course elements found in successful distance courses. Although many of these elements appear in the standard TWU syllabus, providing a section within the course increases the liklihood that students can easily access the information.

What to Do

Effective distance educators provide information within the course on course goals, class objectives, expectations, structure, and related course/ departmental/ University policies.

How to Do It

Many of the following elements also appear in the standard syllabus at TWU. Since online learners often scan for information, we recommend copying these elements into a special section of the course for policies. This makes it easier for students to locate information and provides added documentation for the instructor.

Course Policies

  • Course name and overview

Lenses

A lens is a custom view of Connexions content. You can think of it as a fancy kind of list that will let you see Connexions through the eyes of organizations and people you trust.

What is in a lens?

Lens makers point to Connexions materials (modules and collections), creating a guide that includes their own comments and descriptive tags about the content.

Who can create a lens?

Any individual Connexions member, a community, or a respected organization.

What are tags? tag icon

Tags are descriptors added by lens makers to help label content, attaching a vocabulary that is meaningful in the context of the lens.
