'My Favorites' is a special kind of lens which you can use to bookmark modules and collections directly in Connexions. 'My Favorites' can only be seen by you, and collections saved in 'My Favorites' can remember the last module you were on. You need a Connexions account to use 'My Favorites'.
    • A lens (What is a lens?)

      Definition of a lens

      Lenses

A lens is a custom view of Connexions content. You can think of it as a fancy kind of list that will let you see Connexions through the eyes of organizations and people you trust.

      What is in a lens?

Lens makers point to Connexions materials (modules and collections), creating a guide that includes their own comments and descriptive tags about the content.

      Who can create a lens?

Any individual Connexions member, a community, or a respected organization.

"Shadows" Portfolio

Module by: Interactive Mathematics Program

Intent

Students compile their portfolios for the unit and write their cover letters. As this is the last unit of the year, an end-of-year reflection and review are also included.

Mathematics

In this portfolio, students will reflect on the mathematics covered in this unit and over the entire year.

Progression

Students start work on their portfolios in class by reading the instructions in the student book and beginning their cover letters. They complete their compilation of items and reflective writing outside of class.

Approximate Time

20 minutes for introduction

30 minutes for activity (at home)

Classroom Organization

Whole-class introduction, then individuals

Doing the Activity

Have students read the instructions in the student book carefully. Then they are to take out and review all of their work from the unit. They will have completed part of the selection process in Beginning Portfolio Selection. Their main task today is to write their cover letters.

Discussing and Debriefing the Activity

You may want to have students share their portfolios in their groups, comparing what they wrote about in their cover letters and the activities they selected.
