'My Favorites' is a special kind of lens which you can use to bookmark modules and collections directly in Connexions. 'My Favorites' can only be seen by you, and collections saved in 'My Favorites' can remember the last module you were on. You need a Connexions account to use 'My Favorites'.
    • A lens (What is a lens?)

      Definition of a lens

      Lenses

A lens is a custom view of Connexions content. You can think of it as a fancy kind of list that will let you see Connexions through the eyes of organizations and people you trust.

      What is in a lens?

Lens makers point to Connexions materials (modules and collections), creating a guide that includes their own comments and descriptive tags about the content.

      Who can create a lens?

Any individual Connexions member, a community, or a respected organization.

How to Consult with a Writing Mentor: OWL-Space Scheduling

Module by: The Cain Project in Engineering and Professional Communication

Summary: This handout was prepared for students in General/Honors Chemistry at Rice University, but it may be adapted for any class. The handout provides instructions for how students can use OWL-Space (limited to use by Rice students) to schedule a writing consultation during times writing mentors are available.

What are writing mentors?

Writing mentors are available to meet one-on-one to discuss your CHEM 124/154 Report on Michael Crichton’s State of Fear. Mentors can answer questions about the assignment, brainstorm with you to generate ideas, and help you organize ideas or focus your discussion. When you have completed a draft, writing mentors can help you to assess it for argument, organization, readability, and coherence. They cannot act as editors, however, and will not violate the Rice Honor Code.

How do I set up a consultation?

To work with a mentor, visit the SCHEDULE section of CHEM 124/154 OWL-Space. Consulting times are marked with the word “Mentor” followed by a mentor’s initials. Find a consulting time that works for you. Consulting appointments begin every 30 minutes (for example, for a session marked from 8 to 10 pm, the appointments are at 8 pm, 8:30 pm, 9 pm, and 9:30 pm).

Click on the session you would like. View time slots already taken in that session under “Description.” If your desired time slot is not taken, click “Revise.” In the text box labeled “Message,” type your NetID (the name before @rice.edu in your email address) and the time you would like your 30-minute consultation to begin.

For example, if your email address is abc1234@rice.edu and you want consulting from 6:30 to 7 pm, you would type the following: abc1234 6:30

Click “Save Event” at the bottom of the page. If your desired time slot is taken, chose another 30-minute time slot in that mentor’s consultation window, or click “back to calendar” to choose another time/date.

Once you have signed up, the mentor will contact you by email to confirm your appointment and to arrange a place to meet. If you do not hear from your mentor by 24 hours before your scheduled session, you may contact him/her at the following email address (all @ rice.edu):
