A lens is a custom view of the content in the repository. You can think of it as a fancy kind of list that will let you see content through the eyes of organizations and people you trust.

Summary: drawing up a budget for home carpeting and tiling

MATHS. LITERACY – GRADE 11

PROJECT – BUDGETING – HOME IMPROVEMENTS

DUE DATE : 12 May 2010 MARKS : 100

Draw a floor plan of the house you live in . Show clearly the following details :

  • The kitchen with the fridge , stove , cupboards , etc.
  • The bedrooms with the beds and cupboards. Use simple

rectangles to indicate all of the above.

  • Use a suitable scale for your plan and show your scale .

You are planning to tile the kitchen :

  • Determine the area of the kitchen to be tiled – you will not be

Tiling under the kitchen cupboard and other fixed items.

  • Using adverts from your local newspaper , determine the total

cost of the tiles that you chose.

  • Calculate the total cost of labor for tiling the kitchen.(provide the advert)
  • Other items needed for tiling.
  • Show the final budget for tiling the kitchen.

ALL ADVERTS MUST BE PROVIDED – NO PHOTOCOPIES ALLOWED

  1. You are also planning to carpet the main bedroom.
    1. Determine the area of the bedroom. Exclude fixed items.
    2. Determine the total cost for carpeting the main bedroom – supply the advert you used.
    3. Determine the cost of labor for carpeting the bedroom – supply the advert.
    4. Other costs that must be catered for.
    5. Show the total cost for carpeting the bedroom.
  2. You take a loan for the amount required for the tiling and carpeting. The bank charges you interest of 12% compounded monthly for a period of 5 years. Determine the total amount that you will pay at the end of this period.
  3. The work submitted is entirely my own .
