What is in a lens?

Lens makers point to materials (modules and collections), creating a guide that includes their own comments and descriptive tags about the content.

Who can create a lens?

Any individual member, a community, or a respected organization.

What are tags? tag icon

Data Handling

The Five Number Summary and the Box and Whisker Diagram

The five number summary is made up of the following values:

1.      minimum value: the lowest value in the data

2.      lower quartile (Q1): the median of the first half of the data, the value exactly in the middle

3.      median (Q2): the middle value of the data

4.      upper quartile (Q3): the median of the second half of the data

5.      maximum value: the highest value in the data

The five number summary can be represented graphically, this is known as the Box and Whisker diagram.

How is a box and whisker diagram drawn?

1. A five number summary must first be established.

Eg. Use the following data to draw a box and whisker diagram.

18 27 34 52 54 59 61 68 78 82 85 87 91 93 100

minimum value = 18

Q1= 52

Q2 (median) = 68

Q3 = 87

maximum value = 100
