Help Using the Multimedia ZIP File Download

Obtaining Multimedia Offline

The multimedia ZIP file provides offline access to all the multimedia files, interactive examples, audio files, images, etc., that are not available in the printed version (PDF) of this collection.

To Access the Files

  • Download the ZIP (see Figure 1)
  • Extract all of its files to a location on your hard drive
    • If you browse the zip file before extracting files, you will not be able to open the included files.
  • Open the README file for instructions or go directly to “mediafiles.html” file in your Web browser

How to Navigate

As you read the printed materials, when you come across a footnote that refers to a multimedia file it will look like:

In this example "m12405" is the module number and "mettrip.mp3" is the multimedia filename.

You have two ways to access this file:

  1. Open “mediafiles.html” in your web browser. (see Figure 2)

Most multimedia content in Connexions modules and collections can be opened in a web browser. Some might require you to download the appropriate players for the type of file. Once you have opened mediafiles.html, look for the module number, "m12405" in this example. You can use "Ctrl+F" to search for this module number, if your browser supports this feature. Listed under this module's files you can locate the media file referred to in the footnote, "mettrip.mp3" in this case.

  2. You can also find the file by navigating the folder structure extracted from the zip download. (see Figure 3)

Locate the folder corresponding to the module that contains the media file. In our example, you will look for and open folders named "content" "m12405", and "latest" in succession. Open the folder, and look for the appropriate media file, e.g. "mettrip.mp3".
