Browser Support
Connexions aims to provide basic compatibility with all common browsers. Because we are using advanced XML technologies, however, not all browsers are able to take full advantage of the features of our content.
This page describes the current site support for several popular browsers. Please click on the links below to read a full description of how each browser is supported as well as known issues. Please note that browser support may change in the future as new technologies are used and additional browser features are implemented. If you are using a browser not listed below, feel free to tell us about your experiences. While we cannot provide full support to all browsers, we do try to make sure that the site works for as many people as possible.
In order to properly view MathML content, including some of our most popular math and science material, you may need to install third-party fonts or plug-ins to work with your browser. See the full browser details below for additional information.

Unsupported Browsers
Fully Supported Browsers
These browsers are fully supported by Connexions. New site features and bug reports are tested in these browsers to ensure complete compatibility. Any problems viewing Connexions content using these browsers should be reported to technical support. Please note that browser version numbers other than those listed here may not be fully supported.
Firefox 3 (pending)
Firefox 3 is supported by Connexions; however, we are currently investigating some of the changes to the way MathML have affected the display of some content. While we are committed to resolving these issues and moving towards full support, please note that we are not able to guarantee that all MathML content will be accurately displayed at this time.
Firefox 3 users should download the STIX Beta fonts and install them according the instructions provided. Important! These fonts are required in order to properly display MathML content; while content may appear to display correctly without these fonts, failure to install them could result in subtle but important changes to some expressions.
Note: If you are upgrading from Firefox 2 to Firefox 3 and had previously installed the fonts for Firefox 2, you will need to uninstall those fonts before attempting to use the Edit-in-Place authoring interface. One of the fonts (cmsy10.ttf) is not compatible with Firefox 3 and causes strange characters to be displayed when using Edit-in-Place wherever MathML is used. These characters only appear in the authoring interface and do not get displayed when the module is viewed online or in print. To resolve this issue, simply remove cmsy10.ttf from your system fonts. If you used our installation program to install these fonts on a Windows-based computer, you can remove them using the uninstaller program through the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
You can download a free copy of Firefox 3 at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/.

Firefox 2
Firefox 2 is fully supported by Connexions. In order to properly display MathML content, however, you will need to download a set of fonts that will allow your browser to properly display MathML content. Windows users can use our MathML font installer for Firefox 2.
You can download a free copy of Firefox 2 from the Mozilla Foundation website. Please be aware that installing older versions of the Firefox browser may expose you and your computer to known security risks as described in the link provided above.

Internet Explorer 8
Internet Explorer 8 is currently in beta testing and has not been evaluated by Connexions. You may need to install the MathPlayer plugin by Design Science in order to view MathML content; however, no testing has been done to determine if this is necessary or even compatible with Internet Explorer 8.
Our goal is to eventually provide full support for the Internet Explorer 8 browser once it has moved out of beta testing. If you have experienced any problems or success using Internet Explorer 8 to either view or create Connexions content, please let us know.
Chrome
Google's Chrome browser has not yet been evaluated by Connexions. At this time it appears that Chrome does not support MathML. There are currently no plans to provide support for this browser, though we will continue to monitor developments and may consider support in the future if our evaluation yields positive results.
If you have experienced any problems or success using Chrome to either view or create Connexions content, please let us know.
Safari
Safari currently does not support MathML content, and does not work with the Edit-in-Place authoring interface. Due to these limitations we are unable to provide support for Safari at this time; however, there are no reports of problems using Safari to view non-MathML content or edit modules using the full source editing mode. We will continue to monitor future Safari developments, particularly with regards to MathML support, and may consider support in the future.
If you have experienced any problems or success using Safari to either view or create Connexions content, please let us know.

Opera
Opera has historically been unsupported due primarily to a lack of MathML support. The recent release of Opera 9.5 provides experimental MathML for CSS support which has not yet been evaluated by Connexions. We will continue to monitor developments and may consider support in the future if our evaluation yields positive results.
If you have experienced any problems or success using Opera to either view or create Connexions content, please let us know.
