Lens High Performance Computing Open Education Cup 2008-2009

Lens by: Ken Kennedy Institute for Information Technology

This lens highlights the entries submitted to the Open Education Cup, an initiative launched during SC08 in Austin, Texas. The Open Education Cup was conceived of and created in an attempt to create awareness and enhance the interest in creating Open Educational Resources (OER) in the area of High Performance Computing (HPC). The hope is that this effort will stimulate and help the community recognize and embrace the opportunity that OER represents for developing and sharing high quality teaching and education material. While the Open Education Cup as announced at SC08 was narrowly focused on core HPC topics, the larger goal of the initiative targets making open education and training material available supporting computational science and engineering and more broadly eScience. OER can enable educators, instructors and learners to access a rich set of free online teaching and learning material, lowering the barrier to offering education and training programs. We hope that this humble seed initiative will inspire other educators, instructors and learners to share their own education and training material. The opportunities for contributions are almost unlimited ranging from authoring new modules, enhancing existing modules, translating modules to your own language and creating collections that can be used in teaching classes supporting your own curricula needs.
