Biography:

I direct Rice University's Electronic Resources Center, where I oversee the Travelers in the Middle East Archive (TIMEA) and other digital library projects and assist faculty and students in the creation and use of digital resources. I have a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia; my research interests include the history of reading, authorship, and publishing, humanities computing, and American literature and culture. Since 1996, I have created and edited electronic texts in TEI (the Text Encoding Initiative).
