Biography:

Really, being Southern is a point of particular pride for me, and I take great offense at people (other than other Southerners) who portray us as insensitive dolts. I am

Southern down to synapses. As proud as I am of my Southern heritage, I am equally proud of the New South and the power and creativity that its diversity brings to the region.

I am a conservative, I guess, based on my values of family and religion, my ethics, and my belief in the ability of the individual to succeed, my faith in the free enterprise system, and my lack of faith in government to cure the ills of society. At the same time, my concern for the success of every child is the single guiding professional value from which all others are derived, and if that takes higher taxes, then sign me up. I will pay my share and not complain.

I love leadership and the study of how organizations tick. I love sharing that with others. I love to teach. Still get a kick when the light bulbs come on in an audience! I love to help and watch people grow.

I try to be thoughtful and well read. I have been fortunate to have had and to continue to have wonderful mentors, and I am more a reflection of who they were and are than any single accomplishment of my own. I work really hard at trying to intellectually and practically figure our "what is right."
