Biography:

Rayma L. Harchar is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Technology at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. She received her Ed.D. in School Administration from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and is a certified superintendent, principal and reading specialist. She has 29 years of experience as an elementary and middle school teacher and principal. As a professor of four years, she helped develop a new principal preparation program which focused on authentic field experience, instructional leadership and school improvement. She serves as Coordinator of Field-Based Experiences and Mentors. Her recent publications were Educational Leadership Review Reality Check: Designing a New Leadership Program for the 21st Century in Educational Leadership Review August, 2006 and Chapter 8: Staffing and Personnel Management in Educational Administration in The Role of Management in Educational Administration, edited by Frederick Dembowski, Connexions. Last year, she was published in Reading Exploration and Discovery (READ). Louisiana Reading Association Journal, Winter 2005, Reading skills are not for babies: The secondary reading program and Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 5(1), Mock Interview Strategy: An action research study of administrator and teacher candidates’ preparation for interviews. In 1996, she was published in the Journal of Educational Administration. 34(3), 15-29, Collaborative Power: A grounded theory of instructional leadership in the elementary school.
