Biography:

Thomas C. Valesky is noted most recently for his collaborative work with Robert G. Owens in publishing the ninth edition of Organizational Behavior in Education: Adaptive Leadership and School Reform (Allyn & Bacon). Tom began his career in education serving in a variety of positions including teacher, high school counselor, elementary principal, and superintendent. These positions were both in the United States and overseas, including two positions in International-American schools as superintendent of the American School of San Salvador, El Salvador, and the Anglo-American School in Sophia, Bulgaria for the U.S. and British embassies.

He is currently program leader and professor for the Educational Leadership program at Florida Gulf Coast University. His previous higher education work included professor at the University of South Florida, and chair of the Department of Educational Administration and Supervision at the University of Memphis. At the University of Memphis he was also a senior researcher and team leader studying school-based decision-making and school finance. He has authored numerous publications in each area, as well as in the area of special education. His work resulted in co-authorship of two books, Training for school-based decision making and Challenge to change: The Memphis experience with school-based decision making. In addition, he has had numerous journal articles published in such journals as Journal of Education Finance, Exceptional Children, and the National Forum of Educational Administration and Supervision Journal.

He has served as President of the Southern Regional Council on Educational Administration (2001-2002) and as a member of the Executive Board of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration, 1995-98.
