Two Connexions textbooks accepted in CA Free Digital Textbook Initiative

2010-05-06

Congratulations to Connexions authors John Hutchinson, and Barbara Illowsky and Susan Dean!

Their books were successfully reviewed and accepted to California's Free Digital Textbook Initiative, and have been posted online by the California Learning Resource Network (CLRN) for use by educators worldwide.

John Hutchinson submitted Concept Development Studies in Chemistry, which takes a constructivist approach to learning chemisty. He redirects the focus of learning away from memorization of facts and models, and instead develops each concept by analysis of experimental observations using scientific reasoning.

Barbara Illowsky and Susan Dean submitted Collaborative Statistics, already adopted in many classrooms. This book is intended for introductory statistics courses being taken by students at two- and four-year colleges who are majoring in fields other than math or engineering. The book focuses on applications of statistical knowledge rather than the theory behind it.
